News - Lucas di Grassi on Massa`s lawsuit: I sympathize with Felipe. He deserved the title. But this is sport - anything can happen here
Di Grasse spoke out about Massa`s lawsuit. Former Formula 1 driver Lucas di Grassi shared his view of the situation regarding the lawsuit filed by Felipe Massa. The former Ferrari driver is seeking £64 million ($82 million) in damages from the FIA, FOM and ex-Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone for missing out on the 2008 title. The Brazilian insists that the results of the scandalous Singapore Grand Prix should have been canceled - then he would have become the champion, and not Lewis Hamilton, who competed for McLaren. Renault driver Nelson Piquet Jr. deliberately crashed his car on the Marina Bay circuit, which led to the scandal known as Crashgate in 2009. Well, I can`t speak for all of Brazil. And I didn`t do any public opinion research. And I can only speak for myself. I like Felipe, he`s a good friend of mine. And he had an amazing time at the 2008 championship. Did he deserve the champion title? Yes. But this is sport, anything can happen here. If you start to analyze all the facts and possibilities over the past 40 years, you can imagine a lot. I would like Massa to win that championship. And morally it was he who was the champion. Will anything change if he wins this trial? Well, I guess financially Felipe will be the winner. But otherwise, I would not like a precedent to be created and every more or less controversial championship could be challenged in court. On the one hand, I want Massa to get what he deserves. On the other hand, I wouldn’t want to create such a precedent, ” said di Grassi. The hearings on Massa`s case have begun. The 2008 F1 vice-champion demands $82 million for the lost title due to Crashgate Defense lawyers called Massa`s claim untenable and an attempt to mislead the court See all sport news - click here to read all |
