21.01.2021 Zidane: Our dropping out is not a disgrace, such things happen

Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane calmly accepted the loss of third division Alcoyano for the King`s Cup. The Whites were eliminated 1:2 after extra time, and the decisive goal for the hosts fell in the 115th minute, when they were already with one person less.

`We wanted to win, the players tried. When you have situations and you don`t use them, what happened today can happen. The situation is unpleasant, we dropped out, but I can`t blame the players for not giving up`I take responsibility. If we had scored a second goal, everything would have been different. This is football. The opponent`s goalkeeper made 2-3 important saves. However, the responsibility is mine, ` Zidane said.

`We have to beat opponents from a lower division. However, today`s loss is not a disgrace. It has happened to other teams, now we are the victims. We must continue to work and not panic. If we exclude the lattermatches, our results during the season are good. I am calm. I want the players to win, but sometimes it just doesn`t work out and we have to accept it `, added the coach of the royal club. For the fifth time in its history, Real was eliminated by a team from the third division. This first happened in the 2000/01 season against Toledo. In 2008/09 Madrid failed against Real Union, in 2009/10 they dropped out of Alcorcon, and in 2015/16 they left the King`s Cup ex officio for violating the regulations and Cadiz continued.
