News - Lazio has been punished for anti-Semitism
The Italian football federation will fine Lazio with 50, 000 euros, saying the capital club is `objectively` responsible for the distribution of anti-Semitic stickers showing the Holocaust victim Anne Frank to bring a team to the city`s Roma counterpart. The stickers were found at the Olympic stadium in Rome during the Lazio Cagliari match last October. The investigation shows that 13 fans of Roman eagles are responsible for spreading stickers. The culprits are forbidden to visit sporting events. Anne Frank was born in Germany but her family was forced to flee to the Netherlands because of Nazi power in the country. The Frank family was discovered by the Nazi occupiers in Amsterdam, and then sent to a concentration camp. Anne Frank died at age 15 in Bergen-Bellingen, Germany. Roma and Lazio are using the Olympic stadium in Rome for their home games. The Lazio leadership said they had done their best to prevent the stickers from entering the stadium.
